Q:Where does the General Assembly meet?
A:House and Seante subcomittee and comittee meetings typically occur in the General Assembly building. Daily floor sessions are held in the respective chambers on the second floor of the Capitol Building. A map is available that provides information on public entrances to these buildings.
Q:Where do I park to visit the Capitol?
A:There are many paid parking lots and decks in downtown Richmond. Please see our Directions & Parking content for more information.
Q:Is the Capitol accessible for visitors with special needs?
A:The Capitol and GAB are both ADA compliant. See more about accessibility.
Q:Are meeting rooms in the Capitol reserved only for the legislature?
A:Meetings rooms in the Capitol exist to support the work of the legislature, but may be reserved by state agencies/groups. Please be advised that if you schedule an event in the Capitol, it may have to be moved or canceled should the space be needed for legislative purposes.
Q:How do I find terms used in the General Assembly?
A:The terminology of the legislature is unique. The glossary of legislative terms provides the most often used terms encountered in the legislative process.
Q:How do I find out about the budget process in Virginia?
A:Information on the budget process may be obtained from the House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. Each of these committees maintain websites that provide detailed information on the respective bodies budget procedures.In addition, the Legislative Information System (LIS) budget website to view pertinent session data that correspond to the current year budget bills and budget amendments. The Department of Planning and Budget's (DPB) also contains information helpful to the budget process.

Q:Can I find out how a member voted?
A:Yes. All recorded votes are in LIS as part of a bill's history. In addition, citizens can access a complete subcommittee, committee and floor voting record for House members on the House member page of LIS.
