Q:How do I find legislative data from previous years that is not on the Internet?
A:Legislative session data is available on the Legislative Information System (LIS) from 1994 to the present. If you are looking for legislation prior to 1994, please contact the following offices by telephone or email: Senate Legislative Information and Constituent Services (LINCS) Office at (804) 698-7410, information@senate.virginia.gov and/or House of Delegates Information and Communication Services (ICS) at (804) 698-1500, hics@house.virginia.gov.
Q:How do I find out about the budget process in Virginia?
A:Information on the budget process may be obtained from the House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. Each of these committees maintain websites that provide detailed information on the respective bodies budget procedures.In addition, the Legislative Information System (LIS) budget website to view pertinent session data that correspond to the current year budget bills and budget amendments. The Department of Planning and Budget's (DPB) also contains information helpful to the budget process.
Q:Where does the General Assembly meet?
A:House and Seante subcomittee and comittee meetings typically occur in the General Assembly building. Daily floor sessions are held in the respective chambers on the second floor of the Capitol Building. A map is available that provides information on public entrances to these buildings.
